Josh is a six year old who has autism. When he first when to an early childhood classroom he was non verbal. He would have many tantrums and shut down. The teacher learned very quickly that he did not have the language ability that most children of his age did. She began to notice his interests in cause and effect items. The teacher first used an able net super talker to break his language barriers. Therefore he could press buttons in order to show what he wanted. With this being a success, she introduced him to the book worm. He was able to go page by page and press the buttons to answer the questions from the teacher. His confidence began to grow and he was following the words with his finger and saying the words along with the story. He began to make eye contact and did not rely on the book worm for long. He is now using words outside of school and is able to read to his teachers and classmates without the book worm. The book worm helped with his language but more so helped with his confidence that he will have for the rest of his life.
